About us
At the Child Brain Development and Learning Lab (CBDLab), we study how the developing brain in early childhood (birth to age 6) is shaped by everyday experiences, especially interactions with parents and caregivers. Using child-friendly brain imaging (fNIRS), along with video and LENA recordings of natural parent-child conversation, we examine how these interactions support language, prediction, and executive function. We are also using AI to capture and understand these interactions during shared book reading. Beyond research, we are committed to sharing our discoveries with educators and families, helping to bridge science and practice for the benefit of young children.
We recuite domestic and international students!
Our projects combine fNIRS, naturalistic behavioral coding, and tools like LENA and AI-assisted analysis (AutoPEER). Students in our lab gain hands-on experience in developmental research design, data collection with infants and families, and quantitative analysis of brain and behavioral data.
